Zahra Badua is a youth counselor, dance educator and administrator. She was born in Lybia from Ghanaian parents and grew up in Montreal, Quebec. A tri-lingual individual who started dancing as a means to understand and learn more about her African heritage.
Zahra is a trained Traditional West African, Afro Caribbean Folklore dancer as well as other West African and Caribbean street styles. Her educational background is in both Legal Administration and Community and Justice Services. She has worked with various schools within the GTA building recreational, academic and/or dance programs to help students cope with their school and life stressors by building their conflict management skills, self-esteem and confidence or simply providing outlets to express themselves and learn about African and/or Caribbean cultures. Whether is through movement, lectures, seminars, podcast or her administrative work, Zahra is dedicated to disseminating knowledge about the vast beauty and history of Afro-Diasporic dance and to use the arts to promote happiness, self-expression, confidence and build communities.
With over 15 years of dance and teaching experience under her belt, dance is a way she communicates and explores her dance practice. She does this through her educational and performance brand – ZahraMoves. Zahra teaches all ages from kinder level students to recreational adults all over the Greater Toronto Area, and a movement coach for adults with different developmental abilities and children living with autism.
